I met Daniel right after I moved to Ecuador in 2008… he was 18 or so by the time. I immediately felt in love with his playing. He is a true free spirit and therefore excels in various musical genres: jazz, salsa & latin, songwriting & folklore and of course improvised music, which is not so common in Ecuador.
We’ve been collaborating on various projects since then, and in 2014, he honoured me by asking me to produce his first album as a songwriter. It was a tremendous adventure ! During the process, we were always talking about the idea of doing a live session of fully improvised music. It finally happened in 2015, but it was too early by then for us to realize that the recording was usable for a public edition, even if we were quite satisfied with the result.
It’s finally at the beginning of this year, listening back to the session with fresh ears, that we decided to release the full session as an album. We just reorder the 30 tracks (!!) that we recorded that day in a couple of hours, and here it is: 90 minutes of improvised music.
If Daniel only plays his soprano saxophone, I use several guitars on this recording: classical, acoustic 6 and 12-string & electric. You can listen to some free full tracks and buy the album on bandcamp, or listen to track samples and buy it on Apple Music:
