Nelson Veras: My Funny Valentine

Nelson Veras is one of the greatest genius of modern jazz guitar, and maybe my favorite guitar player of all time ! His playing is just phenomenal. Here a transcription I made of his solo on the Rodgers & Hart’s classic My Funny Valentine. The arrangement is by Harmen Fraanje, and is part of his album “Ronja”. It’s in 5/4, Em key and reharmonized with a modal approach.

You have it in slide-show, downloadable PDF format and I also put a midi version of the transcription as a reference.

As always with Nelson, rhythm can go crazy … and is by far the hardest aspect to transcribe in his solos (and by this, i do not mean that the notes and chords are easy). If you have a different perception of the rhythm in some sections, please let me know !

Guitar solo starts at 2:30.
